Buy Julia Child’s French Cottage In Provence For $860K

Julia Child’s cottage in France — featuring one of the most sought after kitchens in the world — just hit the market for roughly $860,000.

Located on a hillside of the small Provençal village of Plascassier, the 1,500-square-foot home includes an open living and dining room, three bedrooms and bathrooms, a pool and a separate guest house. but the highlight (of course) is the kitchen, which has been kept mostly intact because the last meal Julia cooked there. The counters are extra tall, and the pegboard walls are still covered with original cooking equipment. Click through to see the renowned space that Julia once called home.

Named “La Pitchoune” (“the little one” in Provençal), the home was built by child and her spouse Paul in 1963 on land owned by Simone Beck, Child’s best pal and co-author of Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

The front terrace of the home features a classic bistro-style table.

The pool was built by current owner Kathie Alex, who ran a culinary school until 2015 and was a pal of Child’s.

The kitchen is modeled after the one in Child’s house in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is the only existing private “Julia Child-kitchen” in the world.

A lovely living and dining area with pops of color and a wood-burning fireplace embodies Child’s cheerful personality.

Classic red toile adorns one of the home’s three bedrooms.
